New York City, 1961 ‘Late 1961, days before the Carnegie Recital Hall concert, I believe. A friend took this photo. I remember the soft, khaki sweater I loved. Since I was not pursuing fame, and was pretty pleased with my works in various media, I would say I was happy with myself’

PAINTING FOR BURIAL (1961)

ieatyouruterus:

On the night of the full moon, place a canvas in the garden from 1:00 AM till dawn. When the canvas is dyed thoroughly in rose with the morning light, dismember or fold it and bury. The ways of burial:

1.) Bury it in the garden and place a marker with a number on it.

2.) Sell it to the rag man.

3.) Throw it in the garbage.

Painting to Let the Evening Light Go Through, 1961
Yoko has described this work as “almost jarring in its senselessness, and therefore mysterious.”
