“What a small room! John was looking at the world from this room…A boy with a small room and a big dream… It choked us up thinking of what his dream did for the world… yoko”

FRANKLIN SUMMER (1995-2013) I was in the country at my farm, just relaxing and everything. And somebody told me that they wanted my drawings for an exhibition. I said, “I don’t do drawings.” But it was such a beautiful day. And I saw the beautiful rolling hills and the sun and everything was so kind of lackadaisical, a beautiful summer day. And I think, “why don’t I just try to do it? Oh, this is interesting!” So I finished six of them. And I called the person who was arranging the gallery show and said “I think I did some drawings. Do you want them?” “Of course, we’re waiting for them!” So from then on, I realized that as it’s so easy to do it, and as it’s just so relaxing to do it - it’s almost like a therapy. So I did so many of them. I do them without planning. It’s not like I’m saying, “Oh, let’s do a circle,” you know - each one is totally different. YOKO ONO: Half-A-Wind Show is at Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt, Germany until 12 May 2013 #schirn You can see more FRANKLIN SUMMER drawings accompanying my Instagram series @100Acorns. SKY PIECE I: Towards the end of the Second World War, I looked like a little ghost because of the food shortage. I was hungry. It was getting easier to just lie down and watch the sky. That’s when I fell in love with the sky, I think. Since then, all my life, I have been in love with the sky. Even when everything was falling apart around me, the sky was always there for me. It was the only constant factor in my life, which kept changing with the speed of light and lightning. As I told myself then, I could never give up on life as long as the sky was there. Tell us when you first noticed the sky. Tell us when you first thought that the sky was beautiful. (via Photo by 100acorns • Instagram)

The Breakup by Michael Rakowitz at Lombard Freid Projects: This is a very well made collage documentary/art film. I walked into the gallery not knowing what was going to be shown. It was to do with The Beatles and Palestinians. They show the Beatles performing and cut into the film a Palestenian band playing. Sometimes, the Beatles are playing visually, but the sound is of a Palestenian band, vice versa. The whole show was a very important statement. yoko (via Photo by yokoonoofficial • Instagram)

By the way, I am in love with my new hat! Look closely at what I am seeing on the wall. It’s a J&Y record cover! It indeed took a long time before people would realise that they were art! John and I thought so. We were frustrated artists who couldn’t get a decent offer from galleries to do shows. So, we put our art stuff on record covers - a bit like Keith Haring put his in the subway stations. yoko (I’m at ‘The Breakup’ by Michael Rakowitz at Lombard Freid Projects) (via Photo by yokoonoofficial • Instagram)

James Welling at David Zwirner Gallery: These pictures the artist chose to frame, are probably all Scotland. It made me feel nostalgic for artworks expressing love of the artist, not money. yoko (via Photo by yokoonoofficial • Instagram)
